Meritorious Teacher and Associate Professor Ha Thanh Doan, PhD, is an economist, academic leader, and university administrator with more than three decades of experience in higher education, research, and institutional governance. He currently serves as Vice-President of Ho Chi Minh University of Banking (HUB), Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Journal of Economics and Banking (AJEB), and Chair of the Standing Committee of HUB’s Scientific and Educational Council. Throughout his career at HUB, he has held a number of senior leadership and academic governance positions, including Chair of the University Council, Head of the University Leadership, Vice-President, Director of the Institute for Research and Banking Technology, Chair of the Scientific and Educational Council, and Member of its Standing Committee. These roles reflect his extensive involvement in university governance, academic strategy, research development, and institutional decision-making.
His research interests encompass applied macroeconomics, finance and banking, sustainable development, higher education management, and science and technology management, with particular emphasis on Vietnam and developing economies. He has extensive experience in postgraduate teaching and doctoral supervision and has led numerous research and institutional development projects supported by the State Bank of Vietnam, HUB, and the Erasmus+ Programme. His scholarly record includes journal articles, books, and co-edited Springer volumes in economics, finance, banking, and econometrics.
His contributions to higher education and the banking sector have been recognized through a number of national and sectoral honors, including the title of “Meritorious Teacher,” conferred by the President of Vietnam in 2014; the Commemorative Medal “For the Cause of Education,” awarded by the Ministry of Education and Training; and multiple Certificates of Commendation from the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam and the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. He has also played a significant role in advancing HUB’s international academic engagement, notably through his long-standing leadership of the International Econometric and Financial Conference of Vietnam (ECONVN), formerly known as the International Econometric Conference of Vietnam until 2025.
